The European chemical industry is a foundation of the continent’s economy. To help those keen to acquire an accurate picture of the industry, we have produced this regional overview to better understand the industry today, the challenges it faces, and its ambitions for the future.
Note that the scope of the chemical industry differs from one country to the other. In some countries, the scope of the chemical industry is strictly limited to chemicals, under NACE 20 of the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Union. In other countries, the scope of the chemical industry also covers the pharmaceutical sector and the rubber & plastics sectors, i.e NACE 21 and NACE 22 respectively.
