On behalf of the European chemical industry, we are sad to hear of the passing of Jean Belanger, former President of what is now the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) and the founder of Responsible Care. We send his family our sincerest condolences.
Jean Belanger played a remarkable role in advancing our industry’s approach to managing health, safety, environmental issues and beyond. Today, Responsible Care is a global initiative which runs across 70 economies and represents 90% of the global chemical production. In 2020, on the 35th anniversary of Responsible Care, Cefic paid tribute to Mr Belanger’s commitment to improving safe chemicals management across the industry.
