Cefic welcomes Commission brochure on EU Industrial Policy
Cefic welcomes Commission brochure on EU Industrial Policy

Brussels 13 March 2019 – The European Commission today published a brochure outlining a comprehensive approach to EU Industrial Policy and explicitly recognising the need for a strategy for European industry.

The Franco-German proposal for an industrial policy to overhaul EU competition and merger rules, is a useful starting point for an in-depth discussion. This should be followed by a fully-fledged industrial strategic action plan that goes beyond merger control, investment and trade policy, in line with our Manifesto for a Competitive Europe. The EU chemical industry has always been a vocal proponent of a renewed EU industrial strategy that will help the chemical industry fully realise its role as a solution provider for a competitive, low carbon and circular economy in Europe.

We look at the new Commission to shape these ideas further and Cefic will engage with the new Commissioners to ensure that the Industrial Strategy is mainstreamed across all EU policies and creates a favourable business environment that stimulates innovation and job creation in Europe.
