Cefic welcomes the political agreement reached by the EUinstitutions on Horizon Europe today under the current Romanian Presidency ofthe Council of the EU.

This political agreement puts the EU institutions on trackto timely launch Europe’s most ambitious Research and Innovation programme, putting innovation at the heart of European policy.

The chemical industry is an innovator and a solution provider for many other sectors and industries, spending each year about
€ 9.1 billion on Research and Development. Innovations from the chemical industry are essential for achieving a low carbon and circular economy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Says Cefic Director General Marco Mensink: Cefic fully endorses the central role given to the innovative and enabling role of industry in Horizon Europe. As a key European industry, we are committed to further engage with the EU institutions, especially in the context of the ‘Global Challenges & European Industrial Competitiveness’ pillar as well as the Public-Private-Partnership programmes and R&I Missions.

Cefic looks now to the EU institutions for securing an ambitious and forward looking budget on Horizon Europe as part of the Multiannual Financial Framework.
