The 2026 cycle of the Responsible Care® self-assessment is now open. This annual self‑assessment allows chemical companies and national chemical industry associations to review and benchmark their environmental, health, safety and security performance over a structured reporting period. Participants can complete the assessment at their own pace until 31 March 2027, allowing sufficient time for internal data collection, validation and continuous improvement planning.
The Responsible Care self- assessment is conducted through Cefic’s dedicated webtool: a multiple-choice questionnaire available in 17 languages. The tool helps users gain a clear view on their performance, frame their commitment, identify steps for improvement through tailored guidance, and benchmark their results against others.

Why use the Cefic self-assessment webtool?
The Cefic webtool supports chemical companies in implementing Responsible Care by providing a structured way to assess their environmental, health, safety and security performance. It also allows national associations to visualise aggregated national results, helping them identify areas of improvement, support communication, and enable benchmarking.
The questionnaire has recently been updated to better align with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements.
Feedback invited from companies
Cefic is also inviting all Responsible Care participant companies to provide feedback on the updated self-assessment questionnaire, including its alignment with CSRD and the option to skip non-applicable questions. Feedback can be submitted until the end of June 2026.
