Chemical industry presents cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable future

“We want to show you that chemistry is an essential part of our world since the dawn of time,” said Cefic President Daniele Ferrari, opening the exhibition “Chemistry Building the Future”, which kicked off today in the European Parliament.

The exhibition, which will last until 17 October, showcases some innovative solutions developed by the industry to make our lives more convenient and sustainable.

For example, a mattress which was made from captured COemissions, or a smart jacket, which allows you to regulate the temperature inside the jacket via smartphone. Visitors can try and test all items on display.

“Look around and you will see that chemistry is everywhere”, stressed Ferrari. “The chemical industry not only produces all building blocks on which our modern society is built, it also helps our transition towards a circular and low-carbon society,” he added.

Daniele Ferrari mentioned the industry’s Mid-Century Vision which outlines how the European chemical industry – together with Cefic and all national associations representing the chemical industry – can help Europe achieve its ambitious sustainability targets while continuing to thrive in a global economy. These targets can be achieved only if all EU institutions, national governments and industry sectors work together.

“As an industry, we are in a constant dialogue with society to further improve chemical safety as well as protect human health and the environment, and enhance biodiversity”, said Ferrari. “I invite the Members of the European Parliament to work together to build a stronger, more sustainable and successful Europe, and I want to make sure the chemical industry contributes to it.”
