From fast fashion to durable dress
10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by clothing and footwear production. If clothes could be made more durable, possibly this would lead to less production. That is why Chemours is collaborating with the textile industry to improve the stain-fighting ability of clothing, linens, and textiles used in homes and cars.
Chemours has developed a non-fluorinated durable water repellent product that is a finish for textiles. It is made with 60% renewably sourced content from plant-based raw material, the remainder is based on fossil-fuel raw materials. It creates a textile finish that continues to repel water and water-based stains for 30 washes or more. The finish requires 25% less drying time and washes well in cold water. Reduced energy use, combined with longer useful life, helps us save money while lessening our carbon footprint.
In addition to the sustainability benefits, this treatment also allows textiles to look new for longer. Furthermore, fabrics treated with this finish can still be recycled at the end of their life, due to the treatment’s biodegradable nature. The product is already being used in ski-and active wear for outdoors.
