Improving plastics recyclability by using the same lid for every pot

What do coffee capsules, yoghurt packages, and meat packaging have in common? They are often sealed-off with a plastic lid, to ensure their contents stay fresh as long as possible. The only downside is that these packaging structures are often hard to recycle, because they mix different types of plastics together, which adds to the plastic waste issue.

Evonik has developed a solution that includes using heat seal binders designed with recyclability in mind. How? Their heat sealants enable the use of one sole plastic – in this case PET – used for both the food packaging container, as well as the lid.

In addition to designing the product sustainably, Evonik is also working together with the value chain to ensure optimal sorting and recycling processes.
