Sustainability Portfolio Management

Safe and Sustainable Chemicals, Switzerland

A leading initiative by Sika.

Sika’s Sustainability Portfolio Management (SPM) methodology integrates innovation and sustainability to enhance opportunities, mitigate risks, and deliver positive business outcomes. This methodology aligns with Sika’s innovation strategy, ensuring that their products consistently offer performance and sustainability advantages.

The methodology is built upon the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Chemical Industry Methodology for Portfolio Sustainability Assessments (PSA). This framework enables Sika to assess, categorize, and market products based on their performance and sustainability attributes. Through this evaluation, Sika can proudly endorse new or existing products under the banner of “More Performance – More Sustainable.”

The criteria used within the SPM methodology to evaluate products within specific market segments align directly with sustainability aspects significant to Sika, as determined by the Sika Materiality Analysis. The SPM methodology is an integral component of Sika’s innovation process.

By adopting a standardized approach, Sika streamlines product development assessments, ensuring that decisions are well-informed and facilitating benchmarking activities. This approach is applicable across all product categories, encompassing both new product developments and existing offerings, and adheres to a four-step process. This systematic approach empowers Sika to comprehensively evaluate products based on their performance, sustainability attributes, and alignment with strategic objectives.

The SPM methodology encompasses a comprehensive array of Sustainability categories, addressing sustainability aspects of paramount importance to Sika. Products evaluated through this methodology undergo a rigorous assessment across 12 Sustainability Categories, ensuring that Sika’s Sustainable Solutions are tailored to meet specific needs:
