Which actions are needed for a truly competitive EU Single Market in transport?
As the European Commission’s 2025 strategy, “A Simpler Single Market to Make Companies Choose Europe,” identifies transport and logistics among the biggest barriers to a fully functioning Single Market, Cefic launches a 10-point Action Plan listing key measures from relevant legislative files to maintain transport competitiveness while accelerating emission reductions.
Reliable transport is vital for the chemicals industry, but incoherent and outdated EU regulations together with fragmented national rules impact cross-border efficiency. The 10-Point plan sets out concrete actions to fix the regulatory and operational obstacles improve the flow of goods across Europe, and strengthen overall transport performance.
Measures are addressed covering several proposals from the proposed Greening Freight package – including the Rail Infrastructure Capacity Regulation, Combined Transport Directive, Weights and Dimensions Directive, CountEmissions EU Regulation – alongside elements of the Greening Corporate Fleets initiative.
10 points towards a competitive EU Single Market in transport
- Harmonise rail infrastructure capacity and traffic management across borders
- Systematically involve stakeholders in rail infrastructure capacity planning and foresee performance management
- Revitalise and support single wagonload rail transport
- Modernise combined transport policy
- Set ambitious, coordinated support measures for combined transport
- Facilitate cross-border use of heavier and longer vehicles
