Brussels, Belgium (07 October 2024) – The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) has strongly supported the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC) since its inception at the fifth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management in 2023 as well as its predecessor, the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). The one million-euro donation is the second largest to the fund to date. Below is a statement from Chris Jahn, ICCA Secretariat and President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council.
“ICCA and our member associations and companies are proud to support the Global Framework on Chemicals with this million-euro donation. It is important for us to show our commitment to the GFC’s success and our sincere desire to promote chemicals management globally. Our industry has been actively involved in capacity building and developing the GFC to ensure that the framework will benefit countries across the globe. It is important that the global community gives time for the GFC to work before trying to find other international agreements to implement restrictions on chemicals. We are looking forward to working with all stakeholders on the framework and ensuring its development protects the environment and our communities.”
