“We want to show you that chemistry is an essential part of ourworld since the dawn of time,” said Cefic President Daniele Ferrari, openingthe exhibition “Chemistry Building the Future”, which kicked off today in theEuropean Parliament.
The exhibition, which will last until 17 October, showcasessome innovative solutions developed by the industry to make our lives moreconvenient and sustainable.
For example, a mattress which was made from captured CO2 emissions, or a smart jacket, which allows you to regulate the temperature inside the jacket via smartphone. Visitors can try and test all items on display.
“Look around and you will see thatchemistry is everywhere”, stressed Ferrari. “The chemical industry not onlyproduces all building blocks on which our modern society is built, it alsohelps our transition towards a circular and low-carbon society,” he added.
Daniele Ferrari mentioned the industry’s Mid-Century Vision which outlines how the Europeanchemical industry – together with Cefic and all national associationsrepresenting the chemical industry – can help Europe achieve its ambitioussustainability targets while continuing to thrive in a global economy. Thesetargets can be achieved only if all EU institutions, national governments andindustry sectors work together.
“As an industry, we are in a constant dialogue with societyto further improve chemical safety as well as protect human health and theenvironment, and enhance biodiversity”, said Ferrari. “I invite the Members ofthe European Parliament to work together to build a stronger, more sustainableand successful Europe, and I want to make sure the chemical industrycontributes to it.”
