Human Resources

Cefic is looking for a dynamic and passionate Trade Analyst to support the growing needs of our Trade Policy Team. The team has run too small and we need to reinforce it, starting with fostering our expertise on trade data analysis.

This role will focus on strengthening Cefic’s capabilities in the area of European and global trade by monitoring and analyzing international trade flows, writing reports, supporting member companies as well as national associations and exploring the potential of digital tools and AI-based initiatives.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Trade & Customs Policy, the selected candidate will support the development of actionable, data-driven insights and customized products and services for Cefic members, enabling timely and strategic responses to evolving trade challenges.  This role will also require interactions with European policy makers.

Inspired? You will:

  • Design and implement monitoring tools to detect and analyze trade disruptions such as import surges, trade diversion, or shifts in global supply chains. Develop digital dashboards, trackers, and visual products that communicate key trends and risks.
  • Analyse economic articles to capture economic and trade trends in the sector.
  • Assist in preparing trade policy briefings, member updates, and input to policy consultations.
  • Provide timely, tailored analysis and visual tools to support Cefic member companies in navigating trade policy challenges.
  • Support digitalisation and AI-related projects to automate trade data collection, pattern detection, and policy impact forecasting.
  • Work with external providers (e.g. data vendors, consultants, and tech platforms) to enhance Cefic’s access to high-quality, real-time trade data.
  • Support Cefic’s anti-dumping feasibility services to companies
  • Engage and support member companies, sector groups and internal policy teams to ensure strategic and data alignment across Cefic’s trade agenda.
  • Contribute to the department’s service-oriented culture by actively listening to member needs and co-creating practical outputs with measurable value.
  • Work closely and proactively with other colleagues in the Trade Policy Team, contributing to a strong, team-based approach to all projects and initiatives.

In light of the rapidly evolving economic and political global landscape, trade tensions, growing import pressure and unfair trade practices and the need to diversify trade partnerships with third countries, our trade team at Cefic is at the forefront of addressing these critical challenges.

Joining our team means being part of a dynamic and proactive team that is dedicated to navigating the complexities of global trade and economic security, advising members and engaging with EU policy makers on solutions for our highly trade intensive industry.

Our members are counting on us more than ever to support them, and you will play a vital role in driving meaningful progress. The trade team at Cefic is composed of passionate and skilled individuals who work collaboratively to develop solutions and advocate for our industry’s interests.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:

  • A Master’s degree in Economics, International Trade, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in trade analysis, policy advisory, or digital intelligence—preferably in an industry body, consultancy, or trade-focused institution.
  • Strong working knowledge of trade statistics and instruments (e.g. customs data, FDI data etc).
  • Demonstrated experience with digital tools, dashboards, or AI-based analytics projects is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work with external service providers and translate technical deliverables into member-relevant outputs.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data visualisation or statistical tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Python, R).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; other EU languages are a plus.
  • A member-service mentality, with an ability to anticipate user needs and build practical solutions.
  • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively in a policy-driven, multicultural environment.
  • Willingness for occasional travel.

Cefic is a unique place to work due its access to knowledge, its scope of issues, the connections at European and international level, as well as being a buzzing and friendly environment. It is a  people oriented, international and dynamic organisation at the centre of EU affairs. For two years running, Cefic has been named ‘Best EU Trade Association’ by BestinBrussels. It is the largest association in Brussels, representing around 650 large and small chemical companies and associations around Europe. With our members, we work on almost all major issues impacting industry; from climate change, energy, innovation, health, safety and environment, product stewardship, sustainability, and more. We also represents around 80 Sector Groups which work on specific substance issues. How do we do this? We offer guidance and training, we support independent science and studies, we develop aligned industry views on EU policies, and we seek opportunities to engage with representatives from industry, EU institutions, civil society and beyond.

The EU chemical industry is the industry of all industries; whether you look at wind turbines, batteries, insulation, recycling technologies, all these materials depend on chemicals. Chemicals are known as the backbone of Europe’s economy; representing over 1.2 million workers, €655 billion turnover and €10.2 billion R&I investments in 2023. Yet in the past decade the chemicals industry has faced major challenges; having lost around 11 million metric tons of chemical production capacity in Europe in the past two years alone, corresponding to 10,000-20,000 jobs possibly impacted, and a further 150,000-200,000 jobs at stake. As an industry that has the ambition and the solutions to go climate neutral, circular and transition to safe and sustainable chemicals, while also safeguarding high-quality jobs in Europe, we believe this is an industry worth people’s time and energy.

The Human Resources team are focused on the quality of internal co-operation,  sustaining healthy working conditions and maintaining direct and open dialogue at all levels. For further information about Cefic, please visit our about us section.
