A leading initiative by Daschser Czech Republic.

Dachser Czech Republic, an international logistics company, has embarked on a mission to achieve emission-free deliveries in the heart of Prague and Hradec Králové. Through the use of electric cargo bikes and delivery vehicles, they have not only significantly reduced their carbon footprint in both cities but also maintained top-notch delivery reliability. Currently, the project is on the brink of joining the emission-free regular collection service line on the company’s busiest route, connecting the Hradec Králové and Kladno branches.

In 2020, Dachser introduced the distribution of piece and parcel shipments using cargo e-bikes from the bicycle depot in Prague. In February 2021, they became the first logistics provider in the Czech Republic to distribute pallet shipments via e-cargokol. Their emission-free delivery in central Prague now spans eight city districts, serviced by a special CT4L e-bike equipped with a Bicylift Europallet attachment. A similar concept was also rolled out for parcel deliveries in the heart of Hradec Králové.

In 2022, the emission-free route was extended further, covering the Kladno – MicroHUB Prague section, located in the inner city district of Tesnov. This stretch is served by a fully electric MAN eTGE 3.5 t vehicle with space for four pallets and a loading capacity of 900 kg. The project is set to expand in May 2023, with the introduction of an emission-free section between the Kladno and H. Králové branches, deploying a Volvo FX Electric 6×2 vehicle with two exchangeable bodies for the regular collection service line. This expansion, along with efficient distribution models in Prague and Hradec Králové, will lead to further reductions in the carbon footprint while maintaining the highest delivery reliability.

Environmental Impact and Savings

Before the implementation of the zero-emission supply project, Dachser relied on conventional (diesel) powered vehicles for distribution to the city centers of Prague and Hradec Králové. These vehicles would leave the respective branches after consolidating shipments for the final mile, resulting in a substantial carbon footprint. Additionally, this model faced challenges such as heavy traffic, frequent jams, inadequate parking conditions in the city center, and other truck-related restrictions.

Thanks to the emission-free delivery project in these city centers, Dachser is set to save 8,006 kg of CO2 emissions annually. After the completion of the entire Hradec Králové – Kladno section, starting from July 2023, CO2 savings will soar to nearly 50,000 kg per year. This transition empowers the company’s customers to access a fully emission-free delivery model on this route, employing a well-balanced mix of electric vehicles, including electric cargo bikes, MAN e-vans, and a Volvo e-truck, with a combined weight of 40 tons.

In the next phase, scheduled for Q4/2023, the emission-free delivery zone in Prague will witness further expansion through the establishment of an additional microHUB, complemented by another eTruck – the Fuso eCanter New Generation. Dachser’s commitment to emission-free logistics in Czech Republic showcases their dedication to sustainability, reduced carbon emissions, and efficient urban delivery solutions.
