Innovations and Solutions

The company participates in the “Change Chemistry” initiative and collaborates with emerging partners, to scale bio-based and Safer alternatives across multiple sectors, including Oil & Gas, personal care, rubber, and food. Dedicated laboratories and technical support centres worldwide allow Brenntag to co-develop safer alternatives tailored to customer needs.

Brenntag’s circular economy practices include solvent recovery and activated carbon reactivation at facilities in Belgium, Spain, Italy and Switzerland. These operations enable recovered chemicals to be reintroduced into supply chains, reducing waste and virgin feedstock dependency. A circular Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) methodology has been developed and has been certified by a third-party, ensuring standardised, ISO 14067:2018-compliant Life Cycle Assessments.

Added Value

A carbon management programme by Brenntag, including an internal carbon price, supports emission reduction projects such as electric trucks, heat pumps, green electricity sourcing, and the transformation of the Traun site in Austria toward zero-emission operations.

Training and knowledge sharing are delivered through learning modules, workshops, webinars, expert exchanges, and more, covering sustainability, circularity, carbon management, safe chemical substitution, and other topics.

Brenntag has received the 2025 Responsible Care Awards as a winner for its actions in “Operationalising Sustainability Across the Chemical Value Chain”. The company operationalises the Responsible Care Global Charter across three pillars: responsible product portfolios, sustainable value chains, and informed customer engagement.
