In March 2025, France Chimie launched a comprehensive guide to help chemical companies adapt to the increasing impacts of climate change. With thousands of industrial sites across the country, the sector faces growing exposure to heat waves, droughts, storms, and other climate hazards, which heighten health, safety, and operational risks.

ResponsibleCareAwards2025-France_C_A Guide to Help Chemical Companies Adapt to Climate Change

The guide offers a clear methodology for developing climate adaptation plans, featuring:

  • Practical factsheets covering all climate hazards and their potential impacts on workers, processes, transport, and logistics.
  • Over 600 concrete adaptation measures and a list of available funding sources.
  • A four-step approach: raising awareness, mapping critical issues, assessing vulnerabilities for 2030–2050 (and beyond), and selecting cost-effective measures for short- and long-term action.

It stresses the importance of continuous improvement, cross-functional coordination, and strong management commitment to ensure business continuity and resilience.

A new digital tool has been released, complementing the guide, offering site-specific adaptation recommendations based on geolocation, climate forecasts, expert impact assessments, and France Chimie’s proposed measures, helping companies build tailored adaptation plans.

This initiative forms part of the Responsible Care approach and can enhance companies’ sustainability reporting, including compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). By integrating adaptation into their sustainability strategies, chemical companies can demonstrate greater climate resilience and maturity in sustainable management.
