Fighting COVID-19 in Switzerland: Chemical industry initiatives
- Winner of 2021 Responsible Care Awards: INEOS Hygienics, after playing a role in easing the shortage of hand sanitizers for hospitals, turned its focus to the public assuring the same level of hospital grade protection at home, offices and during travelling. Further, INEOS helped children across the UK return to school safely and promoted outdoor activities for the community living around one of its British plants.
- INEOS is a Winner of the 2020 Responsible Care Award for its “#Handson Handgel Initiative” which included the building of new hand sanitiser plants and free deliveries to hospitals and front line medical and care services in Europe and the US.
- Dow Chemical Europe SA is a winner of the 2020 Responsible Care Awards for its “Dow COVID-19 program and Return to Workplace plan” which included an impressive return to work plan implemented in a structured way at all European manufacturing sites and offices, involving key stakeholders. Its ongoing communication of best practices was also highlighted.
- Clariant has been supplying approximately 80 tons of disinfectant per month for Swiss medical institutions
- DuPont has been donating coveralls, gloves, safety goggles and boxes to the local ambulance services and hospitals
- DSM has been boosting the immune system with vitamins and other micronutrients. In this way, patients especially at risk can strengthen their immune system against the coronavirus.
- Huntsman and Syngenta have been increasing their production of hand sanitisers for donating to hospitals and pharmacies
- Novartis has been donating hydroxychloroquine. Hydroxychloroquine and a related drug, chloroquine, are under evaluation in clinical trials for the treatment of COVID-19.
- Solvay has launched a solidarity fund to provide (financial) support to employees and dependents who experienced hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic and will dedicate surplus funds to COVID-19 charitable and research organisations.
