Ensuring sound management of chemicals at global scale
Cefic supports the work of the United Nation’s Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) in their efforts to promote a global policy framework to foster the sound management of chemicals. Cefic promotes the inclusion of the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in the trade and sustainable development (TSD) chapters of the EU trade agreements.
GHS provides a harmonised basis for globally uniform physical, environmental, and health and safety information on hazardous chemical substances and mixtures. Cefic engages in capacity building activities in African countries, focusing on Ghana and Ivory Coast. A globally harmonised system is important to ensure safety, environmentally sound management of chemicals, and sustainable economic growth across the globe.
