Cefic releases updated guidelines on Flexitanks for transportation of bulk chemical products
Cefic has released updated guidelines to support the safe and sustainable transportation of bulk liquid cargoes using Flexitanks. These guidelines aim to promote best industry practices towards preventing or mitigating incidents during transportation.
Flexitanks or ‘Flexitank systems’, are flexible bladders fitted within drybox containers for transporting bulk liquid cargoes. Over the years, Flexitank producers and operators have made significant advancements in bag manufacturing, container selection, and loading/unloading practices to address safety concerns. The increased demand for affordable transportation options for non-dangerous cargoes has contributed to a significant rise in flexitank usage.
To ensure safe operations and support industry-wide best practices, Cefic has updated its flexitank guidelines initially introduced in 2018. The guidelines provide comprehensive recommendations for equipment selection, vendor and service provider requirements, product allowance criteria, standard operating procedures, and incident management. It is important to note that applicable national or international regulations take precedence over any recommendations provided.
Cefic remains committed to continuous improvement, and these guidelines will be periodically updated to address emerging challenges and incorporate the latest industry advancements in the safe and sustainable transport of bulk liquid cargoes using flexitanks.
