Ammonium sulphate producers create new association to raise awareness about the benefits of their product

Brussels, 4 April 2019. – Four producers of ammonium sulphate – BASF, Domo, Fibrant and Lanxess – have decided to create their own sector group within the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) to jointly promote the benefits of their product. This new sector group will be called the Ammonium Sulphate Producers Europe (ASPE).

The new group will seek to establish a closer dialogue with the EU authorities and raise awareness about the benefits of ammonium sulphate to the environment and circular economy.

Ammonium sulphate is widely used in agriculture as a key ingredient in fertilisers because of its environmental performance: it improves the availability of sulphur and nitrogen – key nutrients for plant growth – and has no negative impact on soil and water. Besides fertilisers, ammonium sulphate is used in feed, bread and bakery as an acidity regulator, and in pharmaceuticals.

Franck Boher has been nominated for first Chair of the ASPE. It is expected that the founding of ASPE will be formally approved by the Cefic Board in June 2019.
